Dave Franco Joins Michael Bay’s ‘Six Underground’

written by Jasper XX.VII

Dave has joined the ensemble cast of Michael Bay’s Netflix action movie, Six Underground. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona, and Corey Hawkins have also signed on to the big-budget action film led by Ryan Reynolds. No further details, have been officially released, but being the first to report the casting, Collider shared some possible info about the film.

Not much is known about the actual plot of Six Underground, though the script was written by Reynolds’ Deadpool and Deadpool 2 scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who will also serve as executive producers. Interestingly enough, the tone of the film is said to be in the vein of Deadpool meets Mission: Impossible. Reynolds will lead a team of four men and two women on some kind of mission to stop evil, so he’ll play One (naturally) and Franco is making a deal to play Six.

Six Underground will start filming later this month and will be released worldwide in 2019.

“The LEGO Ninjago Movie” is heading to San Diego Comic-Con!

written by Neide XXVIII.VI

Fantastic news for all our The LEGO Ninjago Movie fans! It has been announced that the movie will be making its way to San Diego Comic-Con, along with the TV show! While there is no confirmation yet of Dave’s appearance at the convention, he is part of the cast and so, there is a high chance we will be seeing him in San Diego next month!

The biggest question about this year’s Warner Bros. panel isn’t if it’s happening — but rather, what they’ll be bringing (beyond, of course, a certain Justice League). Today, that question has been answered in part.

The LEGO Batman Movie director and executive producer of The LEGO Ninjago Movie, Chris McKay, was asked today on Twitter if Ninjago would be at San Diego Comic-Con — and his answer? Yes!

While that doesn’t fully guarantee a Hall H presence, it seems like a lock-in. Both The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie received time on the annual Warner Bros. Hall H panel, with cast and creatives on hand to offer a look into their respective films. Ninjago boasts a large voice cast full of Comic-Con friendly talent, including Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Michael Peña, Kumail Nanjiani, Abbi Jacobson, Zach Woods, Fred Armisen, Jackie Chan, and Olivia Munn — so there would be plenty of cast to choose from.

Franco’s “Blood Meridian” Test Reel Online

written by Nika XXIV.VII

In honor of Child of God’s release on August 1, I’m posting a 25-minute test I did for the film version of Blood Meridian. Blood Meridian, by Cormac McCarthy, is my favorite novel. It marks the midpoint of McCarthy’s career, between the Southern Gothic stories of his Tennessee days (he grew up in Tennessee and went to high school with painter Josh Smith) and his later border-based stories (The Border TrilogyNo Country for Old Men, The Road) after he moved to Texas and then to New Mexico.

In some ways Blood seems un-filmable. It is almost Biblical in its prose. His terse prose utilizes vocabulary only found in the crannies of annals of the Old West and the specialized spheres of working men. He captures the slang of forgotten peoples so deftly, it’s as if they were his barroom friends.

I made my test for Blood Meridian three or four years ago. It stars Scott Glenn, Luke Perry, Mark Pellegrino (Lost), and my brother, Dave. We shot it in three days in some place near Yosemite that is the mule capital of the world. If you know the book, you’ll recognize that this is the sequence where Tobin recounts how the Glanton gang met the Judge, a Satan-like character and Glanton’s right-hand man. The gang was out of gunpowder and about to be caught by Apache warriors, whereupon they would be killed for lack of working weaponry. Enjoy.

Dave is the Cosmo Guy of July

written by Jenny XXII.VI

Dave is the Cosmo Guy in the July 2014 issue of Cosmopolitan. You can read the interview below and check out the scan in the gallery.

With back-to-back roles in Neighbors and 22 Jump Street, the Funny or Die regular (and James’s lil’ bro) is the man.

Your part in 22 Jump Street is pretty unforgettable …
Yes. I can confidently say that it’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever done on film — and I’ve done a lot of strange things.

Your Funny or Die videos are a riot. What cracks you up?
Christopher Mintz-Plasse — no one makes me laugh harder than he does. Also, my two enormous cats. They are 17-pound tabbies who love to spoon. There’s a lot of cat incest going on in my house.

If you were on Tinder, what would your tagline be?
“I go to sleep every night with 34 pounds of cat on top of me.” That would probably scare off 90 percent of the Tinder community, but for the 10 percent that embraces it, I’ve got nothing to hide from there.

Would you ever date one of James’s exes?
No. It’s a lose-lose situation. Either I’m dating the girl he used to date and it ends up horrible, or it ends up great, we get married, and then have awkwardness for the rest of our lives when James is around.

Can we talk about dick pics — have you ever sent one?
I don’t think I’ve ever sent a full-on dick pic. Maybe a bulge pic? Like pressing up against those jeans. But never a full-skin, graphic, close-up dick pic. I don’t think any girl wants to see that! Bulge pics are the new black.

@AndreaKCC: What are your guilty pleasures?
I recently got into The Voice. But I only like watching the first couple of rounds, when all the power is in the judges’ hands. It feels like once the vote is in America’s hands, it’s more of a popularity contest.

Dave Franco to Star in ‘Intern’s Handbook’ for Sony

written by Holly XV.V

Sony Pictures has nabbed the rights to The Intern’s Handbook: A Thriller with plans to turn the project into a vehicle for actor Dave Franco.

Oren Uziel, who worked on Sony’s upcoming 22 Jump Street, in which Franco appears, is on board to write the script based on a novel by Shane Kuhn.

Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur of Original Film — the company behind the Jump Street movies — will produce along with Circle of Confusion’s Brad Mendelsohn and David Alpert.

The idea behind Intern’s Handbook is thus: There’s a company called HR, Inc., an intern placement agency that is actually a front for a network of assassins whose targets are high-profile corporate executives. The best of the best in this world is John Lago, who can get coffee and make copies like no one else while stealthily ratcheting up a body count.

The story tells of Lago’s stint in a Manhattan law firm, where he’s working as a temp while gathering intelligence for his hit. He then meets his toughest adversary yet: a female FBI agent who is also assigned to take down the same target.

Bullets and sparks fly.

The well-reviewed dark comedy hit shelves April 8, 2014 from Simon & Schuster as part of a planned trilogy. Sony is looking at Intern’s Handbook as a potential franchise.

The acquisition, said to be in the high-six figures, marks a step up for Franco, who has so far not toplined his own movie but has done strong supporting work that has earned him a following.

The actor, who is repped by CAA, is currently sharing scenes with Zac Efron and Seth Rogen in Universal’s surprise hit comedy Neighbors. Among his other credits are both Jump Street movies, Warm Bodies and Now You See Me.

“We really feel like he’s the next star,” said Moritz. “We just think he has immense talent as a leading man and he’s someone who can do humor. He’s paid his dues. He’ s built a great resume of co-starring roles and he’s ready to be a lead. He’s not some guy being plucked from nowhere and told he’s the next big thing.”

Moritz says the producers see Intern’s Handbook as “a franchise made for a price with new emerging talent.”

The producer also described the book as having a “great attitude. It’s a look at what it’s like to be an intern, but in reality you’re so much more. The mantra is that interns are invisible, which makes them so good as assassins. No one sees them coming.”

Dave Franco Isn’t Into Selfies

written by Nika X.V

In Neighbors, the frat comedy starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, out tomorrow, fans of Dave Franco get their money’s worth. The actor—and younger brother of selfie connoisseur James Franco—plays an amiable, surprisingly intellectual frat boy named Pete who finds himself pretty naked (and pretty horny) at one point in the film. Franco, who has previously starred in flicks such as 21 Jump Street andWarm Bodies, is one of the best parts of Neighbors–and not just because he has a nice butt. We’re all up on the Dave Franco bandwagon after seeing it (sorry, James!) and got to chat with the actor about filming with Seth Rogen, picking up girls with magic, and just what is going on with the Franco family.
