“The Little Hours” Release Date Announced

written by Neide XXIX.III

After acquiring The Little Hours at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Gunpowder & Sky is set to release the quirky comedy about nuns gone wild in theaters on June 30, with plans to roll out to at least 50 markets.

Written and directed by Jeff Baena, The Little Hours follows three nuns, Alessandra (Alison Brie), Fernanda (Aubrey Plaza), and Ginevra (Kate Micucci), who lead simple lives in their convent. Their world is disrupted when a young servant (Dave Franco) fleeing from his master takes refuge at their dysfunctional convent in medieval Tuscany. John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen, Jemima Kirke, Nick Offerman and Adam Pally, among others co-star.

Elizabeth Destro and Plaza served as producers of the film, which premiered at Sundance’s Midnight section to generally positive reviews.

The Little Hours is Gunpowder & Sky’s widest release yet. G&S has previously acquired Tribeca Film Festival movie Dreamland and most recently The Oath, an Icelandic thriller by Everest helmer Baltasar Kormakur. The indie outfit also bought film and TV studio Supergravity Pictures in January in efforts to create an equity financing and co-production relationship on film projects.

Hello Dave fans! I start this post by apologizing for the downtime, we were going through some issues but now we’re back for good (hopefully)! If you follow our twitter @DaveFrancoFan you know that we didn’t let you down and still kept you updated with Dave’s trip to Sundance Film Festival, where he promoted the movie The Little Hours.

Dave’s first appearance at the festival was at the movie’s premiere, on January 19. He began promoting it with the cast the following day, and we were rewarded with not only event photos of Dave but also photoshoots! His trip to Sundance Film Festival ended on January 21, after he attended Creators League Studio. The feedback on the movie? So good so far, and we couldn’t be more happy for Dave. Deadline reported on January 26 that the movie had been acquired by Gunpowder & Sky, and now all we have to do is wait for a release date.

I’ve added photos from the film festival to our gallery, and you can also watch interviews bellow!

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY — Writer-director and Sundance favorite Jeff Baena (Life After Beth, Joshy) returns to Park City this year with the comedy The Little Hours, whose high caliber cast includes Alison Brie, Dave Franco, Aubrey Plaza, Kate Micucci, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen, Jemima Kirke, Nick Offerman, and Adam Pally.

Brie, Plaza, and Micucci star as medieval nuns who lead a simple life in their convent. Their days are spent chafing at monastic routine, spying on one another, and berating the estate’s day laborer. After a particularly vicious insult session drives the peasant away, Father Tommasso (Reilly) brings on new hired hand Massetto (Franco), a virile young servant forced into hiding by his angry lord (Offerman). Introduced to the sisters as a deaf-mute to discourage temptation, Massetto struggles to maintain his cover as the repressed nunnery erupts in a whirlwind of pansexual horniness, substance abuse, and wicked revelry.

You can see exclusive images from The Little Hours, which premieres at Sundance on Jan. 19.
